• The Mejlborg Showroom

In the early fall of 2018 Garde Hvalsøe and Dinesen opened the doors to a spectacular showroom in Aarhus in western Denmark that displays the cabinetmakers’ and the flooring company’s shared passion for wooden craftsmanship. The renowned Studio David Thulstrup curated the space, which is exquisitely executed with the utmost respect for the 120-year-old Gothic Renaissance building of Mejlborg.

Since its construction in 1898, Mejlborg has been a landmark in Aarhus. Designed as a stunning home, the contemporary interior of the new showroom beautifully complements the original heritage features, outside as well as inside. The building once accommodated a fashionable restaurant with an intricately hand-painted glass ceiling and tall dark wood panelling.

The shared showroom in the residential building is divided into six rooms that display a selected range of exclusive Garde Hvalsøe kitchens and wardrobe walk-in solutions in combination with Dinesen plank floors. Additionally, a wide range of custom-built features in wood celebrates the craftsmanship of the two companies. Designer David Thulstrup picked a vivid colour range linking the heritage with the new and creating the feeling of a home.

On the ground floor, a large Garde Hvalsøe kitchen island crafted in solid Dinesen HeartOak planks provides a warm and striking contrast to the minty blue walls, and a custom-built dressing room with an exclusive walk-in wardrobe crafted in smoked oak highlights Garde Hvalsøe’s level of bespoke solutions. Setting the stage for an extraordinary experience, pine trees are planted outside Mejlborg as a tangible link between the raw material of nature and the finished, refined wooden products of the interior.
